Playable for everyone.

This site should work with a keyboard, a screen reader and without motion just as well as with a mouse. Here is where it stands.

    Aim

    Aligned with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA. There has been no external audit; the points below were built and tested while making the site.

    In place

    Semantic HTML with a heading structure and landmarks. A “Skip to content” link as the first element. Every link and button is reachable by keyboard and has a visible focus ring. The open menu keeps focus inside it, and Escape closes it. Alternative text for all images. High contrast: light type on a near-black ground. Text scales to 200 % without loss. The page language and the language switch are marked up.

    Motion

    The site contains animation: an opening sequence, strummed strings, a level meter in the logo, sound bars beside a playing recording, a cross-fade between pages. On the home page a muted video clip plays while it is on screen; the “Pause” button stops it. If “Reduce motion” is enabled in your operating system, none of it runs. Nothing flashes, nothing starts with sound on its own.

    Media

    Videos and recordings only load after a click. The players for videos and records come from YouTube, Soundcloud and Spotify; their operability lies with those providers. The Wylroots Garden recordings play in a player of the site's own: each piece has a button to play and pause it, composer and length sit beside it as text, and in a playing piece the arrow keys move the position. In the playlist each video has its title and composer as text beside it; the Simon & the Cats videos list place and date, and the full set has its setlist. The clip on the home page has a text description.

    Known limitations

    Large headings are set in capitals, which some readers find harder to read. The embedded players offer no captions or transcripts. The third-party privacy pages are not part of this statement.
